Maria Helena Hoksch
Maria Helena’s calligraphic journey spans nearly four decades and two continents. She started studying calligraphy as a teenager, followed by a three-year lettering course at university in her native Estonia. She has been employed as an artist-designer at various events and has spent time as a journalist writing about art. After she moved to the United States two decades ago to join her American husband, Maria Helena opened her calligraphy studio in tradition-rich New Orleans, Louisiana. Her time is spent designing for weddings, debutante balls, Mardi Gras crews, and universities. She is equally comfortable with both pointed pen and broad-edge pen. Her demanding schedule allows her to teach workshops about her modernized scripts only a few times each year. calligraphybymariahelena.com
